101: Chakras

Root Chakra (red) is about being physically there and feeling at home in situations. If it’s open, you feel grounded, stable, and secure. You don’t unnecessarily distrust people. You feel present in the here and now and feel connected to your physical body. You feel you have sufficient territory.

If you tend to be fearful or nervous, your Root Chakra is probably under-active. You’d easily feel unwelcome.

If over-active, you may be very materialistic and greedy. You’re probably obsessed with being secure and resist change.

Opening: Let the tips of your thumb and index finger touch. Concentrate on the Root Chakra at the spot in between the genitals and the anus. Chant the sound LAM.

The Sacral Chakra (orange) is about feeling and sexuality. When it’s open, your feelings flow freely and are expressed without you being over-emotional. You are open to intimacy and you can be passionate and lively. You have no problems dealing with your sexuality.

If you tend to be stiff and unemotional or have a “poker face,” the chakra is under-active. You’re not very open to people.

If this chakra is over-active, you tend to be emotional all the time. You’ll feel emotionally attached to people and you can be very sexual.

Opening: Put your hands in your lap, palms up, on top of each other. Left hand under-neath, palm touching the back of the fingers of the right hand. The tips of the thumbs touch gently. Concentrate on the Sacral Chakra at the sacral bone (on the lower back). Chant the sound VAM.

The Navel Chakra (yellow) is about asserting yourself in a group. When it’s open, you feel in control and have sufficient self-esteem.

When the chakra is under-active, you tend to be passive and indecisive. You’re probably timid and don’t get what you want.

If this chakra is over-active, you’re domineering and probably even aggressive.

Opening: Put your hands at your stomach, slightly below your solar plexus. Let the fingers join at the tops, all pointing away from you. Cross the thumbs. It is important to straighten the fingers. Concentrate on the Navel Chakra located on the spine, a bit above the level of the navel. Chant the sound RAM.

The Heart Chakra (green) is about love, kindness, and affection. When it’s open, you are compassionate and friendly, and work at harmonious relationships.

When it’s under-active, you are cold and distant.

If this chakra is over-active, you are probably suffocating people with your love, and your love probably has quite selfish reasons.

Opening: Sit cross-legged. Let the tips of your index finger and thumb touch. Put your left hand on your left knee and your right hand on the lower part of your breast bone (so a bit above the solar plexus). Concentrate on the Heart Chakra on the spine level with the heart. Chant the sound YAM.

The Throat Chakra (blue) is about self-expression and talking. When it’s open, you have no problems expressing yourself, and you might do so as an artist.

When this chakra is under-active, you tend not to speak much, and you’re probably introverted and shy. Not speaking the truth might block this chakra.

If this chakra is over-active, you probably speak too much, usually to domineer and keep people at a distance. You’re a bad listener if this is the case.

Opening: Cross your fingers on the inside of your hands, without the thumbs. Let the thumbs touch at the tops and pull them slightly up. Concentrate on the Throat Chakra at the base of the throat. Chant the sound HAM

The Third Eye Chakra (violet) is about insight and visualization. When it’s open, you have good intuition. You may tend to fantasize.

If it’s under-active, you’re not very good at thinking for yourself, and you may tend to rely on authorities. You may be rigid in your thinking, relying on beliefs too much. You might even get confused easily.

If this chakra is over-active, you may live in a world of fantasy too much. In excessive cases, hallucinations are possible.

Opening: Put your hands before the lower part of your breast. The middle fingers straight and touching at the tops, pointing forward. The other fingers are bended and touch at the upper two phalanges. The thumbs point towards you and touch at the tops. Concentrate on the Third Eye Chakra slightly above the point between the eyebrows. Chant the sound OM or AUM.

Crown Chakra (lavender) is about wisdom and being one with the world. When this chakra is open, you are unprejudiced and quite aware of the world and yourself.

If it’s under-active, you’re not very aware of spirituality. You’re probably quite rigid in your thinking.

If this chakra is over-active, you’re probably intellectualizing things too much. You are probably addicted to spirituality and ignoring your bodily needs.

Opening: Put your hands before your stomach. Let the ring fingers point up, touching at the tops. Cross the rest of your fingers, with the left thumb underneath the right. Concentrate on the Crown Chakra at the top of your head. Chant the sound NG. (Warning: don’t use this meditation for the Crown Chakra if you don’t have a strong Root Chakra, as you need a strong foundation first.)

Curiosity killed the cat, but at least the cat died with satisfied curiosity. It is worse to live with plagued curiosity and starved intellect than to risk the consequences of pursuing unconventional truths.

101: The Magic of Fire

This is taken from "Mind, Body, and Spirit".

Understanding the Magic of Fire

Fire has often been considered the most magical of the elements, representing life, energy, transformation, and change.

It is easy to understand why the ancients saw fire as a form of magic. Apparently conjured from nowhere, it brought heat to the middle of the freezing winter and light tho the darkest night. The fire of the hearth could literally preserve life. It also gave man, not only power to survive easier, but the power to move to colder and yet more prosperous regions.
Fire allows metal to be forged into weapons and tools, giving it magical associations with transformation and change, and is also seen as teh energy that fuels our desires and passions.
The most dangerous element:
Fire flares brightly and quickly as it rises. It can illuninate, warm, and trasnform, but it can also destroy. Its power can be deadly and devastating as well as helpful, and it needs a steady hand to keep it under control.

Working with Fire gives you energy, passion and strength.

Candles, especially those in the fire colors of red and yellow and orange are used to represent the fire element in spells and on magical altars.

Astrology Fire Signs

falls just after the time of the spring equinox when the days are growing longer and the fire of the sun is starting to rule the day for longer than the night. Aries is very fiery with it's need to constantly be experiencing new things, being able to adapt to sudden things, and not being satisfied with peace and quiet.

falls into the second month of the summer and usually the hottest in many regions.
Leo is known to be very fiery in personality, with a need to be the center of attention, and known for their bravery.

also marks a transitional time of the year when we move into the quiet time of winter and need to keep the fires burning to us us through the long, cold nights. Sagittarius are generally very fiery being very stubborn and free spirited.

Colors of Fire:
The assocaiated colors of fire are red, orange, and yellow. These are colors that can make us powerful. It's no coincidence that many armies originally wore red, even if it wasn't their countries' symbolic color.
Red for courage: red is the color for courage and can empower yourself iwth its fire by wearing red clothes or red crystals in your jewlery.

Burn Orange candle or carry an orange crystal to fire yourself up for an important job interview or a competition.

Temper the dangerous fury of fire:

Fire is useful only when it can be controlled. It often needs a more careful balance than the other elements, but don't let this discourage you. Fire can be tempered in the following ways.

With water: water is the best control for fire, it can dowse flames or prevent them. If you have a fiery temper, use an ocean scent to keep yourself under control.

with air: air fans flames of fire, but can also extinguish them, with enough force. Fiery people often find that taking a breath of fresh air when they are frustrated helps them to cool off.

With Earth: earth smothers fire and in turn fire dries earth. Ashes are fertilizers though, so are advantages to this relationship. Fire needs to be grounded to be productive.

Candles for fire:
In purifying and charging spells, a candle is used to represent fire. a candle's flame is a literal fire, and the candle wax reflects the power of change and transformation--melting away as it burns to change its shape and substance.

Charging Charms: Passing charm through a candle flame will empower them with he attributes of fire, allowing you to carry a little extra drive and passion around with you at all times. Wish on a red candle if your hoping for change, such as a new job.

Tarot: Suit of Wands----
In the Tarot, the Suit of wands represents fire and, like the element, is concerned with energy and transformation. Wands reflect our willpower and drive, the energy we need to turn our dreams and desires into reality.

Wands are a representation of wood, fire needs fuel in order to burn.

How to use Fire Magic

Once you understand the power of fire, you can use the magical properties of this element in your spell casting.

Fire is an active element that will energize charms, power up spells, and boost magic, but common sense is vital when dealing with such a force. When working with fire indoors use a fireplace or fireproof dish, or even a cauldron. If casting fire spells outside, choose a space with no overhanging branches or nearby shrubs, and carry water with you to extinguist all sparks when your magic is complete.

The days of fire

The optimum time of the week to use fire rituals and spells is on a Tuesday, ruledc by the fiery planet of Mars, or Sunday ruled by the Sun. If possible, choose midday when the Sun is at its zenith. When your spell casting is done, ashes make a wonderful garden fertilizer---ensuring that as your magic thrives so will your plants.

Your Fire Magic Tools

The tools used in fire magic either help to create it, protect against it or channel its power.

Candles are perhaps the most common.

Bundles of smoldering herbs-smudge sticks-are used in fire magic.

Wands are made of wood, which burns, therefore they are correspondances of fire.

Wood-Burn wood with the appropriate traits for your spell, such as apple for wishes, oak for strength or beech for study.

Athame- because the athame was forged by fire, a sword or a dagger can be used in fire magic.

Fire is most commonly used for transformation spells, love spells, courage spells, protection spells, and home & hearth spells.

101: Visualization of Higher Self Assistance

Visualization of High Self Assistance

Another visualization that you can apply is the one that follows, which also brings your Higher Self to assist you. Use only if you do not want to run into ill intentioned folk.

1. Sit in a comfortable position with your spine straight. Keep still and clear your mind of all thoughts. Breathe in deeply and imagine a ray of white light entering the top of your head. Breathe out slowly.
2. See this light now surrounding your entire body and a second ray of light originating from your heart region. This 2nd ray merges with the first light and completely surrounds your body.
3. Accept the presence of this protective light. Try not to think about it, just focus on your breathing and presence of the light.
4. Say to yourself out loud "I am completely protected and balanced with these rays. Only my master, my guides, my higher self and beings that mean well can influence me now".
5. "The light energy becomes a part of my consciousness and protects me" (breathe in)
7. As you exhale say "I am merging with my Higher self, and my soul's energy is protected"
8. This should be practiced for 15 miutews. Make a tape of new age, world, or meditational music for the backgrand

101: The Power of Three

The number three has a magical importance in cultural and spiritual practices around the world.

Each number, from one to nine, has a resonance and meaning of its own, as studied in numerology. Perhaps the number that has the greatest impact on our lives is the number three. From the youngest age, tiny children hear fairy tales of the magical idea of being given three wishes, and in Christianity we are made aware of the Holy Triune of God. In Druidic teachings, almost everything is in three, and it was suggested that it was easier for the Druids to learn their thousands of stories, songs and wisdoms in “Threes”. Celtic and Hindu mythology have a very strong emphasis on the number three, especially in the trinities of the gods. In Modern Pagan teachings, many worship the Triple Goddess, watching her in three forms, Mother, Maiden, and Crone, and putting a strong conncetion with her and the Waxing, Full, and Waning Moon. In the Kaballah, the Tree of Life has three pillars, representing different sections to the 10 Sephirah.

Numerology and Magic
The number three is regarded as powerful and sacred, as it represents the manifestation of life.
*Number One: A potential seed
*Number Two: Brings in complementary opposites of light and dark, man and woman
Number Three: Completes a dynamic triangle, energy is created and everything begins to expand.

When practicing magic, the number three can be used to empower your spells and incrase the effectiveness of your rituals.

You can use the power of three when setting up your magical alter by creating a triangle from candles, joined by rows of salt.

Examples of the Power of Three:

The notion of three forming a holy trinity is fundamental to many belief systems, from Christniaty, to ancient Paganism, and to Hinduism. The power of three can be brought into our lives through symbols and rituals.

The virgin, mother and crone can symbolize the power of three in pagan traditions.

*In Christniaty, there are three manifestations of God that make up the Holy Trinity. These are God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit

*In Celtic Spirituality the Power of Three can be respresented by the Morganna. Together they are Nemain, Babd and Macha.

The ancient Pagan Triple Goddess image consists of a virgin with mother and crone. when practicing magic, yo can place a state of the Triple Goddess on yor alter to enhance yor spell casting.

*In witchcraft, great importance is placed pon the cycial three phases of the Moon-waxing, fll, and waning. Yo cold carry out a series of spells and ritals to concine with these lnar phases, ths enhancing yor magic by the power of three.

Repeat Three Times

You can increase the power of your spells by reciting incantations three times .

Repeating an incantation three times is important, if yo want to enhance yor magic and triple fold. ONE, you state the intention, TWO yow raise the power of the desire, and THREE yo release the magic!

The first time you recite your incantation yo are making a statement to the niverse, the second time you invoke the energy of the universe's opposites, the third time you complete the circit and b rings the spell to life.

*Repeating the whole process twice more means making your incantation nice times-three to the power of three.

*The repetition increases concentration and focus but doesn't risk going overboard. It helps you resonate with the threefold nature of the universe. You should feel a sense of completion.

Wear the Trinity
We can imbue ourselves with the power of three by wearing or carrying arond threefold objects. A good example is a three sided pendant or brooch. Not only will sch a decorative item look beautiful, it will help us invoke the power of three. This can be a triangle, a triquatra, or anything you consider to represent the number three.

Symbolic Spirals
Wearing a spiral, which is a representation of three-dimensional space in two-dimensional form, is very symbolic. The Celtic triple spiral is found on many standing stones and on the walls in the chamber at New Grange in Ireland. The Celts also used the spiral to show the three worlds in the Barddas , which starts at the source with Anwnwn and the source, spirals out counterclockwise to the Circles of Abred, then Gwynvid and then to Ceugant.
In Feng Shui, a symbol of trinity is used for good luck in your home. For example, three coins placed together in a triangular fashion are hung over doorways as a prosperity charm.

An Everyday Number
Part of working magic involves becoming more conscious of what we are doing in everyday lives. We can quite often catch ourselves referring to the power of three. Notice how we expect things to happen in threes and how we ask for three wishes.
when reading a story, it has a beginning, a middle and an ending. When we tell a joke, the punchline traditionally comes a third round. We can even look at everyday objects and see if there is a natural "threeness to them".
Plants, such as the Irish shamrock, which has three leaves, are often associated with magical good luck.

The Threefold Law

While not everyone seems to embrace this newer philosophy of the three fold law, Wiccans observe the "Law of Threefold Return" in magic workings. This is the belief that whatever you put out will return to you threefold. Therefore, if you act on good intentions, goodness, or at least, good intentions, will return to you. But if you put out bad intentions you will receive only negative in return. This comes from the Eastern ideas of Karma, which simply means "action and reaction". It is only natural to admit that when you are mean to people, people will be cruel to you back, eventually. When you do nothing for yourself in life and don't prepare for the future, the universe will send you nothing in return! However, some believe things work in threes in accordance to this. They believe it all returns three-fold. It's not hard to believe that things build up, like a small ball rolling down a mountain, but not everyone agrees it's quite as precise as three, nor does everyone believe that karma returns in every instance.

101:Complicated Tips on Protection

Due to some recent attacks in the past week in the astral, and becoming physical with results, I wanted to offer some advice on protection.

We're all fairly proficient with magick, with varying levels of skill and knowledge. There's some tips we can offer each other for tricks we may not always know. This deals with a latest incident, and one I noticed not everyone is necessarily familiar with, when it comes to certain demons.

There is a certain demon, more of a servant type, that weakens their victim. They look like a giant eyeball (sometimes twisted) with tentacles or "lashers" (based on interpretation). The poison they deliver is astral in nature, but can affect the physical person. This poison is a mixture of Chaos, Darkness, and some Hate.

Best protection from them is familiarity with more than the 5 Elements many of us are stuck on. Expand to the Twelve elements:

Many barriers we make have trace amounts of other elements in them, which includes any of the Twelve..but strengthening our knowledge and familiarity in these can help in those dire situations. Look into them, feel them, know them..even the impossible. We know them, and intimacy in this knowledge will make you a stronger practitioner.

Try this Ward: Tranquility base with Earth links, Fire stabilizer and Water backing, Chaos threads, then air support to you for mobility.

Cloak: Light base, air insulation, fire treads and water film. Then use a touch of darkness to hide from the negativity or harm directed at you or used to find you (even in association).

Barrier: Earth base, Dark supports. Space barrier on base, Time coating with a touch of Chaos for support to the coating, Fire walls, and water shielding.

Complicated and confusing as hell but when you think about it..different combinations and knowing your protection can save time, pain, and downright pissing you off.

101: Various Protective Spells

You want to get three red candles, and (if possible) 1 black

candle. (if you can't get a black candle without raising

eyebrows, go ahead and get a brand new black permanent

marker. Do not use this marker for anything else but this

type of spell if you can help it.)

Also, if you have access to any essential oils, get some rue

oil or get hold of some bulk rue ... and a small bottle of

olive oil.

A small candle holder and a clean piece of paper and a red

pen to write with are the next things.(again, a new pen if

possible, saving it for this type of spell. A good thing to

do is to get a variety of colored pens to save for doing

specific spells.)

Melt the black wax of the candle in a double boiler and dip

the lower half of the red candles in it, making the black

wax coat the bottom half. Or, if you must, cover the lower

half of the red candles with the black magic marker.

On a night where you can block everyone out for a while,

take a bath with either sea salt or regular salt (1 tsp is

enough) and a bit of rue oil or rue (cut or ground, doesn't

matter). Do not towel dry yourself, go ahead and air dry.

(You can wear whatever you normally wear to do spells, but

you definitely want to air dry.)

Then, get out the rue oil or, in a small bowl, mix 3

tablespoons of ground or cut rue and 1 1/2 tablespoons of

olive oil. Coat one candle with the oil or oil-herb mixture,

anointing from the middle out, going counter clockwise. Do

the bottom half first, then the top. You'll be doing this

spell over three consecutive nights, so save the rest of the

candles and the oil in a safe place.

On the piece of paper, write down what you'd like to see

reversed from you; i.e. bad luck in love, financial

problems, trouble from an enemy, inability to find what you

need in your life, etc. Get thoughtful and make sure it's

something you really want to send away.

Place the piece of paper under the candle holder (it would

probably be smart to put this in a pie plate or some other

fireproof container), charge the candle with your desire to

see these things or trends gone, and light the candle, using

a lighter only (no matches).

Do this again for the next two nights, and once you're done,

burn the piece of paper, seeing your life as if a weight

lifted from it.

If there's any leftover wax, collect it in a brown paper bag

and bury that someplace far from you, or throw in a trash

can across town! Then forget about it, don't worry over it,

just know it worked. You can do this whenever you feel the things in your
life are not going the direction you'd wish, and different candle colors can
be used for specific reversals. This is for general, overall reversals.

Breaking a Spell cast on YOU!

White Candle

Candle holder

Lighter or matches

Get a white candle and place it in a holder. Place the holder in the middle
of your cauldron. Fill the cauldron with water so that the candle extends
above the rim of the cauldron and above the water.

Light the candle and visualize the spell being broken. As soon as the flame
burns down and touches the water, it will go out.

Dig a hole in the earth and pour the in the rest of the water and

bury the candle. So Shall It Be!

Reverse a Spell

This is to be used to reverse a spell cast upon a person, and return

the spell upon the one who cast it. WARNING: Because of the Law of

Threes, depending on the strength of the cast spell, this could cause

great harm to the original spell-caster. This should only be used in

dire need. You will need a cast iron cauldron, a pile of oak wood, some

mistletoe herb, water and 2 - 5 pounds of salt. Collect the hair, nail
clippings, handwriting sample or anything of the person upon whom the

spell was cast. Consecrate the ground and cover it with a layer of salt to
prevent evil from interfering. Pile the Oak wood and light it. Place what
ever was collected from the person into water in the cauldron and boil. Add
mistletoe and perform an incantation. The spell is reversed.

As with any spell work, it were best to perform the spell inside a

Cast circle for protection.

Spell to Avert Curse or Hex sent to you or your family or friend.

A White candle for purity and love.

A Red candle for strength and health.

1 Black candle to absorb evil (use a small one).

1 One Astral candle for subject, in astral colors, with sigils or symbols on
it representing the subject, e.g. zodiac sign and birth date -Maybe a
photo-copy photo of him/her /them to place under the candle.

Anointing oil with purifying and sanitizing properties e.g. 10 drops

lemon, lemon verbena. Citrus or lemongrass, and 10 drops sandalwood.

Rosemary or frankincense essential oil in base oil like grapeseed or

Olive oil. Usual ritual requirements, such as God and Goddess candles (Black
or silver or vanilla for Goddess at right of altar and red, gold or yellow
or for the God on the left of your altar, incense,

quarter candles, and athame.

Anoint and dress all candles, working to middle from top and

bottom for each one, visualizing the purpose of each one.

Set up subject's candle with God and Goddess candle on either side. Light
them and say:

"This is _____ who has been cursed and burdened with evil fortune. May the
God and Goddess come to his/her aid."

Now set up the white candles around these, light them and say:

"This is the circle of purity and love, surrounding _____ to dispel

the misfortune and turn away all evil, to wrap _____ in protective love and
keep him/her safe"

Visualize the white light about the subject. Set up the red candles around
the circle of white ones, light them and say:

"This is the circle of strength around _____ to act as a strong

barrier against evil and to send back all mischief to its source, with

understanding; and to bring _____ back to full spiritual health."

Visualize the red light about you. Finally put the black candle next to the
subject's candle, light and say:

"This is the candle of absorption. Let all evil, misfortune and

wickedness, all curses begone from _____ into this instrument of the Gods."

Visualize all evil leaving the subject as a murky cloud, leaving the

Subject clear, and see the murk being absorbed in the black candle.

Then withdraw the black candle through the flames of each white and red
candle in turn. As it burns down outside the double circle of red and white
candles, chant softly but ever faster, and gradually ever louder:

"All evil misfortune begone, be ended!

Let the curse cease, and _____ mended."

Let the candle burn out completely, pick up the remaining black wax - ALL OF
IT - , put it in a decomposable container, and bury it in a lonely place
somewhere. Now perform the Pagan banishing Rite over that place to remove
all lingering evil in this Spell

Medieval Ritual For Reversing A Candle Spell

Do this five nights in a row, at dusk, as th sun dies, and the

darkness descends. Light 2 black candles, and as they burn, speak

this invocation:

"In the name of the Gods and all ye Spirits, In the name of

Kernunnos, and the light, and the dark, and the Gods of the

Netherworld. Remove thy curse and sting from my heart and mine. And

whosoever shall be casting a curse against me, let he/she suffer

their own curse. Let these candles, be their candles, this burning

be their burning, this curse be their curse. Let the pain they have

cause me and mine, fall upon themselves."

The two candles are completely burned each night

Make a circle(s) of salt and the herb, rue (or add or substitute

rosemary, (dried is OK ) and or garlic and salt

Into a black candle carve your name and trace over with your spit

(lick your thumb)- This charges the candle with your own personal power to
make it a tool for magick

Expose the wick at the bottom of the candle using a knife, stand

upside down in a candle holder and light the exposed wick. As it burns say:

"I reverse the blight upon me and

All power is now mine

I free myself from the bondage of hatred

The curse is lifted my life is sacred."

White candle

Favorite incense

Brown paper Lead pencil

Spoonful of used coffee grounds

Light a white candle and your favorite incense. Meditate a short

while on the problem. Invoke the Spirits of Protection. Take a piece

of brown paper, like from a grocery bag, on it use a lead pencil to

print and write the name of the offending person or people. If

unknown people are involved, also print and write, `and all persons

unknown that are causing harm to me!' Cross off each line forcefully

and say, forcefully:

"I freeze name(s) to be bound by this spell, unable to cause any

more harm to (name(s)! As I will, so mote it be!"

Put a spoonful of used coffee grounds on the brown paper, fold it

small, and place it in the freezer. Leave it until the problem is

completely resolved. Wrap a rubber band, string, twist tie, or what

have you, to keep the coffee grounds from falling out of the paper.

You can also use a zip lock bag. Be sure and burn the candle

completely up. Don't use that candle for a different purpose.

Warrior's (Soldier's) Spell
During the third or tenth hour after sunset, take one mandrake or bronze fennel root, and pass it through incense smoke and a candle flame. Then sprinkle with water and salt, saying:
"I consecrate this root by the powers of the elementals
that it may be cleansed and purified to aid in my work."
Set the root on a pentacle, saying:
"Little man, listen to me.
I'll dress thee and keep thee in my company,
that thou turn aside harm from my fighting man,
that he return safely as soon as he can."
Wrap the root in red cotton yarn. Raise energy and direct it into the rootman, saying:
"In the eye of Mars, by the fires of fury,
let my warrior be steadfast, safe-kept, and victorious."
Wrap the root in a red cloth and hide in a safe place. Keep it there until the warrior(Soldier) returns, then unbind the root and bury it.

The Shield of Isis is a simple, fast invocation to call upon the protection of Isis. It is very specific in its use, and very potent in its results. Here's how to use it.
When confronted with a fearful situation, say to yourself
"I need the Shield of Isis".
A fearful situation can be anything that causes you legitimate anxiety at that moment; this is NOT a general protection rite. It is intended for emergencies or situations that seem potentially dangerous. It is also acceptable to use it in situations where you feel as if your environment is out of control, or that the energy or "vibe" is just not good.
After you have said the words "I need the Shield of Isis", if the shield is truly necessary, you will feel that it has "clicked in". From that moment on, be very alert to your inner voice.
You may receive a clear instruction, such as "Before entering the intersection, look both ways" or something equally mundane.
Listen and ACT on the information you are given.
When the dangerous situation or fearful feeling has passed, say "Thank you." out loud.

101: Shields, Cloaks, and Wards

The first thing you have to learn is that you must believe and have self confidence. If you don't believe that magic gives you the power to reshape the universe, you're wasting your time. If you believe a spell or ritual won't work, it won't. And if you do believe in the power of magic, then you need to realize that when you use it you are putting your hands on the same forces that move the tides and spawn tornadoes. And that by doing so, you have the potential to harm yourself or others.

Here are a few basic techniques for protecting yourself and your home. They are also useful anytime. For example, there's no better night's sleep than in a room that's been magically shielded to keep out psychic noise.

The word cloaking is very useful in learning the technique. If you want to cloak your aura, yourself entirely, or a specific part about yourself, simply visualize a cloak or something similar molded around what your trying to hide...sometimes you can do this by enchanting an object that you are wearing. If you are trying to hide yourself, then it's helpful not to make eyecontact with the things you are trying to hide from. Blend into the darkness, and walk softly. It's possible to cloak cars, which can be helpful when traveling, but do not cloak it so much that other cars do not see you and run into you. While enchanting it, only cloak it from 'enemies', or so on.

This is a technique for creating a magical 'force field' around your person or a place, to keep out unwanted energy. This could be psychic 'background noise', nasty astral critters, or magical energy directed at you. Many people do this unconsciously all their lives. Others of us have to learn how. The method I use is to visualize a black 'force field' of energy around the area to be shielded. Some find it helpful to actually visualize an actual sheild. Remember to 'see' it in 3D, a sphere rather than a circle. (This is where those visualization exercises come into practical use.) I generally use my personal energy to power it, but it is possible to use any element. Earth is extremely useful in this. I visualize negative energy being absorbed by my shields, bouncing off, and flowing into the earth. ("Ground and Center" here.) I visualize it as porous, though, so that energy I send can pass through. With practice, you will be able to shield yourself instantly, without thinking.

When shielding your skin, you can visualize your skin forming into scales, or even armour. The more energy and focus you put in these things, the more powerful they are.

I have found that exhaustion, alcohol, sickness, or depression quickly erode my ability to shield, so keep this in mind. Once you have shields, there is lots of nifty magic you can do with them. You can turn cause the shields to reverse magic/energy back at people. You can set up traps. You can cause your attacker to become confused when he attacks, the list goes on and on.

This is a similar technique. I define a Ward as a Shield anchored to a physical place. Instead of using your energy, though, you let Earth energy flow upward to power it, though most elements can be used if you know how. With practice, you can create a stable, Earth-powered shield. This leaves more energy for spell work, or allows you to drop your own shields and recharge. Reinforce the visualization regularly, and it can be permanent, to protect your Circle, home, or camp. Some tend to anchor wards with physical objects-a stone, carved runes, etc. But it is the visualization that really matters. If the mental image fails, the shield will fail, no matter how many runes you carve.

Occasionally, when going about my daily life, I will feel a 'tickle' at my aura as some kind of psychic energy contacts it. Other times, the hair stands up on the back of my neck, and I quickly raise my shields. And on rarer occasions, I feel a sudden energy drain as my shields go from standby to maximum power before I know what's happened. In these situations there are a few shielding tricks I use. First is the mirror. I visualize the outside of my shields as a perfect mirror, reflecting any energy back to it's source. Next is making the inside of my shields a mirror. I use this to contain any psychic energy I might be emitting, hopefully making myself psychically 'stealthy'. Last is the 'iron wall' or 'stone tower' visualization, changing the thin energy shield into a massive fortress. This requires a lot of power, but when huge waves of negativity are breaking over you, it really helps.

Unfortunetly, there is only so much can be done on the defensive end, especially with us.

Now on to a few active techniques. If negative energy keeps coming at me, I don't sit back and continue to shield until exhausted. Any purely defensive battle is doomed, if it goes on long enough. This is the time where you should turn the defense into offense, which will be another post all together.

But, you can also invoke your deities, your animal spirits, your protection/guides, ect and so forth...when I say invoke, I mean 'invoke the power of', but you can also channel them if you feel it will help.
Malevolent entities (whether astral or earthly) tend to avoid the presence of the Deity. In fact, the nastier they are, the faster they sometimes run. But like most kids, I don't like bothering Mom and Dad all the time with small problems I've been taught to handle myself. We all need to learn to fight our own fights without calling help.

A basic technique is calling 'White Fire.' This is the Light energy of the universe, the silver-white of the Moon and the fire-white of the Sun, the sum total of the magical Elements. Let it flow in from all around you until you feel like a ball of lightning, then send a directed bolt of it back in the direction the negative energy came from. While the mind alone is all you need to do this, I find a sword/athame or a staff or wand are perfect tools to direct your energy through. If this doesn't work, you can still call on the Gods and Goddesses in their warrior/protector aspects to help you.

101: Symptoms of Psychic Attack

Writen by Christpher Penczak in "The Witches Shield", and edited by me.

Potential symptoms of psychic or magickal harm from another, interitionally or otherwise, include the following:

A feeling that you are being watched by something creepy, unfriendly, or malevolent, particularly during a time of quiet reflection alone or when doing any spiritual work.

A sense of heaviness or pressure, as if something were sitting on your chest or shoulders. This physical presence may be acompanied by a sense of cold or heat manifesting as a sudden change in otherwise normal temperatures, without a porper whether change in the environment to support such teperature shift.

Hearing voices of malevolent nature. Usually these are "psychic voices" heard in the mind, but at times they feel so real they seem audible. Sometimes more than one person in the same vicitnity can hear them at the same time. However, if this occurs frequently enough and no amount of magical protection gets rid of it, it might be a good idea to see a doctor for any possible mental problems.

Unusual psychic manifestations of fearful things. These manifestations can occur as obsessive thoughts of accidents or attacks, when you are not normally prone to obsessive thinking. Manifestations can also include visions. Some visions occur as brief but disturbing glimpses in day to day waking life. Others appear in full detail during meditations and rituals, interrupting your spiritual work. However, these may also be warnings of actual things to come, rather than someone specifically targeting you, especially if your clairvoyant abilities are higher than the average persons.

Vidid, recurring nightmares. Often, the images are of things that are generally considered fearsome, but are not necessarily your personal fears and phobias.

A sharp, stabbing pain in the body. Such pain usually manifests itself as a headache, and sometimes marks can appear on your body. Traditionally it is said to occur when the antagonith's name is mentioned in the presence of the target for pyshic attack, or when the target thinks about the antagonist. This is often felt as a strong headache at the third eye, whitout explination, or as a sharp pain where the skull and neck meet. Pains could also be located at the chakra points.

A slow and steady drain on your personal energy. Such drains can affect your work and personal life, as well as your established magickal abilities and talents. Your intuition and ability to use energy and magick can diminish. This is usually accompanied by intense feelings of cold when you are not normally being prone to being cold.

An experience of psychic loss or entrampent. In certain traditions, harmful practicioners curse you by trapping a portion of your energy body and preventing it from returning to your body. Some consider this portion to be a part of your soul. You do not lose your soul itself, but what is considered a fragment or shard of your soul, in shamanic traditions.
Traumatic expereiences can cause parts of our energy to fragment. If we do not heal and rest to integrate them, the trauma can cause them to leave our proximity and hide in the other worlds for safety. Healing, either of a shamanic, or traditional nature, can usually coax these parts back to us, unless they are purposely blocked by another.
In the Voodoo traditions, harmful practitioners are said to grab your 'ti bon ange' or "little angel", also refered to as the astral body, which travels as most sleep or intentionally project. THey use spells to trap this little self in hpe of exerting influence over the person in the waking world. Symptoms of this experience include a feeling of loss, a loss of power, purpose, or self-indenity, a lack of will; a lack of interest in life or a walking-zombie like attitude; or going through the motions of life, but never fully participating. Other healers call this ghost-walking, and it can occur either through harmful magic or naturally through trauma or illness.

Losing many personal objects of importance when you are not naturally prone to misplace things or don't have some sort of karmic debt to repay.

Suddenly becoming accident-prone when you are normally graceful. Accidents may cause you to break precious objects or injure yourself or others, from bumps and bruises to some severe injuries.

A sudden and unexpected illness when no other causes or the illness are apparent. If you are a witch or mythic in touch with your body, do a deep meditation and scan to determine the source of the illness and the message your body is giving you. If you can't find the cuase, this can be a potential symptom of psychic attack.
In many folk magick traditions, practitioners of harmful magick would curse an entire family. Usually the weakest member of the family, the baby is most susceptible to harmful energy of the curse and will experience an extended bout of colic that is not cured by traditional methods. (Side Note: I don't agree with this, I have found that babies and children are more protected by spiritual guides and guardian angels than adults are).
In many indigenous traditions of healing, it is believed that many illnesses are caused by a source of harmful energy outside the afflicted. If someone wishes you ill will, even unconsciously, in can manifest as illness or injury. Breaking the energy of ill will or banishing the spirit of sickness can heal the illness.

A long chain of events that can only be categorized as BAD LUCK, particulary in financial, personal, or romantic affaris of life (But you have to consider if your actions have caused this, or you have karma kicking you in the ass). Again, as we look at illness as a potential symptom of psychic attack you must be introspective to find the root of your bad luck. Often we create the circumstances of our situation, and can not blame them on other people wishing us ill. Just as illness can be a sign from our body and spirit telling us to find balance and healing, experiences with unfortunate circumstances can guide us to a life in greater harmony

Any of the previous symptoms manifesting after recieving a strange, unexpected or unwanted gift from either a strange or from someone you suspect means you harm, physically, mentally, or spiritually. Practicitioners of harmful magick can often link their curses and spells to ojbjects and transfer their harm through the object.

You or someone around you notices you are acting very out of the ordinary, doing things you don't quite agree with or don't make any sense. Someone or something could be influencing you or controling you. In these times you will feel a sense of loss, numbing to things around you that normally interest you, and a sort of emptiness that can not be explained.

An experience of partial of full posession. Possession is when the malevolent spirit, often refered to as a demon or devil(bias, lol), attempts to control a physical body. Partial posession creates the feeling that something foreign is attempting to take you over or that you are simply not "alone" inside your body. Full possession ranges from the feeling that you have lost motor control of your body or that someone else has motor control of you, to the classic stereotypical images of poession with speaking in malevolent voices and foreign languages, pyshical contortions, and feats of strength. Sometimes these possessions will give you long periods of loss of memory, or as if you are asleep. It is important to note that true, full possession is the least fequent occurence of those listed.(However, it happens more often in the Omni, it seems, though still most of the time it's partial possession, or control/influence as listed just before).

When you break harmful energetic links, you should feel a fairly immediate sense of relief from these symptoms. The symptoms of psychic attack can mainfest very quickly and leave just as quickly.

101: Drawing Spirits into Crystals

I have used this method for many years, though it will be difficult to explain how it is done. It's really not that complicated, as long as you understand the fundementals of magic and vizualization. It was performed in my presence first, while I was invoking a helpful spirit, in order to assist in banishing a spirit from the body of a friend. We were in my bedroom and the possessed individual was in sitting on the floor in front of me, and I invoked "Dretzel". She sat up straight and held up her hand about half a foot under neith my chin. Not a moment later did the quartz crystal on my necklace fall right off and into the palm of my hand. She, or I should say, We went straight into action and nearly sat on top of my friend. (Keep in mind, the spirit that was possessing her was not being violent, but none the less, refusing to leave the body). She took the quartz, and held it on her forehead. I remember visualizing the crystal penetrating her third eye, and into her consciousness. The vibrations of the crystal seem to be feeling around for what was not suppose to be there...the energies that felt almost...sick and twisted. When it recognized what it was looking for, it sort of locked in on the intruding presence, and with all my strength I pulled, or sucked it out, and locked it in the crystal. Once I realized all of the alien spirit was inside the crystal, I sat it down on the ground in front of me and wrapped energies around it...layering and layering it with what I visualized it as gray energy, blocking it's escape. And then I wrapped it in a black cloth and put shields filled with reflecting energies into it. In otherwords, the harder the spirit tried to leave the crystal, the more it would drain itself. But this is a temporary prison, until you go about finding more secure bindings to place upon the crystal and the spirit inside it.

After that? It really depends what you think should be done. If the spirit is extremely malicious and dangerous, I would generally put it inside a glass jar or bottle and bury it in a place it won't be disturbed for a long time. Don't bury it near a river or a lake. I can't count the may gates or bindings that have been disturbed due to floods in the past decade. Nothing is ever permanent. Magic can always fade, or be broken by someone or something else. This is just a simple non violent solution of getting a spirit out of your body, and giving them a little encouragement not to come back seeking you again. If you don't think the spirit deserves 'punishment', you just wanted to get rid of them, the best thing to do with the crystal is to throw it in a river or stream. Eventually the water will cleanse the crystal and release the spirit somewhere down the stream.

101: 5 Elements

Fire: Used for purification and defense, often visualized as red energy; sometimes easier to begin working with that way. I usually see a yellow-orangish colored stuff that 'feels' and looks a lot like fire, though the color red is often associated with it by traditionalists. Fire is thought to be the universal force of expansion.

Water: Healing, cleansing, regeneration, motion/movement, often visualized as blue energy. Again, blue is associated with it traditionally, but my mind represents it differently so that it looks like blue and/or clear watery stuff. Water is thought to be the universal force of contraction.

Air: Intellect; mental stuff, can be used as a force to push something away or draw it near, can also purify by blowing the dust 'out' or 'away' from something etc. (use your imagination here) Often visualized as yellow energy. I see and get more of the feeling of air or breezes when working with it, though I used the color yellow to visualize elemental air when first learning. Air is thought to be the universal force that reconciles Expansion/fire and Contraction/water.

Earth: Solidity, strength, making things permanent, some regenerative capabilities, often visualized as green energy. I think of cool, rich, earth or soil sometimes, but 'green' will work fine until you get more into various aspects of the element. Earth is thought to be the combination of Fire Air and Water, and is the universal force of solidification present in physical manifestation.

Spirit: The element of Spirit (the 5th element), often visualized as White energy (I see just a hint of ultra-violet). Spiritual energy can be used for almost anything. You'll have to work with it for a while to get a feel for it and decide how you wish to make use of it. Some people have a difficult time learning to control energy in this phase. Spirit or 'Akasha' as it is sometimes called, is thought to be the universal life principle underlying all things (the universe and everything in it is 'alive' or conscious to some degree). According to my own channeled info, Spirit is "that which permeates all things."

How to start learning to use them

The easiest way to learn to use and channel these energies is to meditate and try to feel yourself immersed in and filled with each one. If the element you wish to work with is fire, then meditate/relax, and then imagine yourself being filled with fire but not being harmed. Try to feel this strongly. 'Feeling' the physical sensation of each element with your whole body is the most important sensation here - it's not just mental visualization. Try to include smells and tastes (until you can almost smell and taste them mentally) as well as the usual mental imagery. In the case of fire, you might even pretend to inhale the fire into your body to get a good feel for it. Do this often until you can feel yourself filled with each energy type easily.

It is recommended that much time be spent meditating and balancing/purifying the self with each element. Once you are able to 'power up' with an energy, then you can begin to work with very basic methods of putting it to use. Example: If you wished to charge or purify an object or talisman with Water, you would 'power up' with or 'inhale' elemental water, and then 'exhale' or direct it at the object with the intention of either purifying or charging it with that energy type. This is the most basic method of utilizing elemental energy. Use your imagination for the rest.

Note on elemental energy

From my observation, the 4 lower elements of fire, water, air, and earth are all very much like fingers all attached to the same hand (the 'hand' being Spirit). In other words, all energy is virtually the same energy, the same light, just in different phases.

"The four elements of nature: Earth, Air, Fire and Water are the very foundations of creation and the basis of life itself. Ancient myths and theories tell us that Divine Beings 'Spirits' were sent to the fledgling earth (then a smoldering pot of confusion being created), to bring about order out of chaos. As the rays of their celestial bodies made contact with the crystallized influences of the lower world, they became the four elements linking humankind to nature, the heavens and the Divine. "

It is also said that from Akasha, spirit, or Ire, came the four elements. All of the 4 elements together make the spirit of Akasha. Without Akasha, there would be no life in anything. Akasha is considered the 5th element, though in truth, it would be the first. A symbol to represent all five elements, is a pentacle/pentagram, the five pointed star, with one point pointed up. The top point would be Akasha, ,making it the central element, and the rest, the four directions, earth-north, air-east, fire-south, and water-west. The color of Akasha is purple, or clear, no color. Most do not use symbols, but say all symbols represent Akasha, though one popular among those I know use an eye with a tear drop, or an egg(which is also used by others). Ancient Hindus had described Akasha as the omnipresent spiritual power that permeates the universe. Also, many among us believe that Akasha is more than just Spirit, and has a consciousness, and is Mother of the Council of 12. There are many beliefs, but most can agree that Akasha means Spirit.
